A beautifully atmospheric mid-century landscape oil painting, executed on board and presented in a decorative gilt frame. This piece captures a quiet river winding through a softly lit woodland, with delicate handling of light and foliage that gives it a distinctly serene, almost romantic quality.
The palette leans into warm greens, ochres, and soft sky tones, with impressionistic brushwork that aligns with European-style decorative landscapes popular in the 1950s–1960s.
The painting is signed lower left “C. Fai.” While the artist remains unidentified, works under this name appear to have circulated in the mid-20th century gallery market. Comparable examples suggest medium-sized works typically trade around $400, while larger-scale compositions—like this example—generally fall within the $1,250 to $2,000 range depending on size, condition, and presentation.
This is a strong, large-scale statement piece—ideal over a sofa, console, or bed, especially for interiors leaning traditional, Ralph Lauren–inspired, or collected old-world aesthetics.
Details:
* Medium: Oil on board
* Signature: Lower left, “C. Fai”
* Period: Circa 1950s–1960s
* Frame: Decorative gilt frame
* Framed dimensions: 30 in H x 54 in W
Condition:
Very good vintage condition. Light, age-appropriate wear to the frame including minor surface wear and patina. Painting surface presents well with no major visible damage. Back shows typical age and previous framing materials.
Additional Notes:
The painting is clearly signed “C. Fai”; however, the frame currently bears a plaque referencing Robert Wood. This does not correspond to the signature or authorship of the work, and we believe the frame was paired with the painting at a later date from a separate piece. The plaque can be removed if desired.
Notes:
A classic mid-century decorative landscape with strong scale and presence. Large horizontal works of this type are increasingly difficult to source, particularly when presented in substantial period-style frames.
