The … Read more This vintage Murano hand-blown glass sculpture is made by renowned glass master Elio Raffaeli, recognized for elegant studio art. The large clear glass orb rests on a swooping cobalt blue arc, on a frosted crystal stand. It is a example of the Murano sommerso (Italian for “submerged”) technique popular in the 1950s-1970s, known for its thick, heavy and often faceted look that keeps contrasting colors separate. Born in 1936, Elio Raffaeli grew up and first studied on the island of Murano, the glass-blowing capital of Venice. This stunning piece measures approximately 22.5” high (Including frosted glass base) and 12” wide, and weighs approximately 35 lbs. It is a showpiece deserving a prominent place in any collection.
