Oil painting on panel from the early 18th century depicting the Ecce Homo. Italy. The Ecce Homo ("Behold the Man") depicts Jesus being led before the crowd by Pontius Pilate after the flagellation. Christ is portrayed with the symbols of the Passion: the crown of thorns on his head, the red cloak draped over his shoulders, and his crossed and bound hands holding the mocking scepter. The features are very delicate, and the expression on his face is extremely melancholy.
