Antique low sideboard in pine wood, Chinese provincial furniture originating from Gansu and dated circa 1930. Originates from Gansu, in western China, from the early 20th century, where local pine was worked using mortise-and-tenon joinery without nails, with openwork tracery on the friezes. In the living rooms and bedrooms of houses in Gansu in the early 20th century, low sideboards served for discreet storage and as bases for visual compositions. The contained height allowed artwork to be hung above without obstruction. Their typology belongs to the provincial tradition of western China.Built in Gansu solid pine using traditional carpentry without nails. The front articulates a central open compartment framed by openwork tracery with a Chinese geometric motif, two side doors and five lower drawers with wrought iron ring pulls. The legs are square in section. The carpentry preserves the imprint of regional furniture from western China. The patina retains the regional identity of Gansu pine: deep and even tone, legible grain. The sheen is matte and the surface shows the wear of prolonged domestic use, with marks and small scratches integrated into the wood. The structure remains solid and the hardware is functional. It fits naturally in contemporary living rooms, bedrooms or transitional spaces. It works as a low storage sideboard, a low cabinet in a living room or a support beneath hung compositions. Its horizontal length and the openwork tracery of the central niche give it presence without crowding the space.
