Originates from Shanxi, in northern China, from the early 20th century, where local pine was worked using mortise-and-tenon joinery without nails, with framed-panel fronts and exposed legs.In the houses of northern China, horizontal sideboards served as everyday storage furniture and as a support surface in the main room. Its medium scale and ornamental restraint set it apart from the more heavily carved versions and bring it close to the constructive language of plain provincial furniture.Built in solid pine using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery, without nails. The front articulates five parallel doors with circular iron latch-style pulls, each resolved as a recessed panel with a simple moulded frame. The sides repeat the same language. The piece rests on four exposed square-section legs. The patina retains the warm tone of aged pine, with grain and knots visible, joinery on view and a matte sheen. The surfaces show marks, stains and traces of prolonged domestic use, integrated into the wood. The structure remains solid. It fits naturally in minimalist, japandi or contemporary rustic interiors. It works as a living-room sideboard, a horizontal storage piece in a bedroom or a long console in an entrance. Its restraint lets it combine with pieces from different periods.DetailsDimensions: Length 210 cm – Width 42 cm – Height 85 cmStyle: Chinese northern provincial furnitureMaterials and techniques: Solid pine; mortise-and-tenon joinery without nails, five framed-panel doors, circular iron latch-style pulls, exposed square-section legsPlace of origin: Shanxi, ChinaPeriod: Early Republic of China (circa 1920)Date of manufacture: Circa 1920Condition / Notes: Sound structure.
