Originates from china, from the early 20th century, where elm (yumu) was worked using mortise-and-tenon joinery without nails.

in the domestic interiors of northern china in the early 20th century, low tables served as auxiliary surfaces beside the kang, raised platforms or low seating. The piece accompanied daily life: a place for tea cups, a base for books, a low working surface. Its typology responds to the material culture of northern china, where domestic furniture was discreet and functional.

built in solid elm using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery, without nails. The thick top rests on four square-section legs with carved corner brackets. Lower h-shaped stretchers reinforce the structure. The carpentry follows the language of chinese northern provincial furniture.

the patina retains the warm tone of aged elm, with the grain drawing deep lines on the top. The sheen is matte. The surface shows the wear of prolonged domestic use, with marks and traces that time has integrated into the wood. The structure remains solid.
