A rare pair of murano venini glass sconces; the delicate circular diffusers are entirely handcrafted using the reticello technique, so named for the characteristic mesh texture visible inside them, a technique achieved by blowing the glass. The glass is supported by a fluted brass base and wall support.
"reticello is an italian decorative glass blowing technique, developed by the venini bellows factory in murano. This is the fusion of two reed bubbles (one inside the other) in which the straight reeds have been twisted in opposite directions. Once joined, the oppositely twisted pipes intersect, creating a net-like design. These stunning murano glass sconces were designed by paolo venini for venini. A protagonist of twentieth-century murano glass, paolo venini (1895–1959), with his passionate activity, carried out over the course of almost forty years, contributed significantly to the vitality of the art of fire, achieving extraordinary results also recognized internationally. Milanese, a former partner of cappellin venini, founded the vsm glassworks in 1925. Venini & c. Having partners such as napoleone martinuzzi and francesco zecchin, from whom he separated in 1932. Having become president of the company, he worked tirelessly as a great director and director of venini until his death in 1959. The venini kiln is the largest and best-known still in operation on the island of murano, as well as being the only example in the world of a kiln with twelve ovens working 12 different colors simultaneously, for a total of 125 possible colors available to them.
