Jahnke painted this in 1974 - the same year the oil crisis was reshaping how America thought about cars, fuel, and consumption. The subject is a Ford Rotunda R1-A oil filter can, rendered flat and deadpan against a soft periwinkle field, ringed by a grid of two-tone circular arrows. The Warhol lineage is clear, but the palette - coral, teal, lavender, mauve - is pure West Coast 1970s, and the border pattern gives it a graphic, almost textile quality that makes it work as hard on a wall as it does in art history terms. Signed and dated lower right, titled on the stretcher with original gallery price notation. Large square format, 32.25" x 32.25", in the original period brushed aluminum frame. Excellent condition throughout. See less
