The composition captures a winding stream cutting through a hillside, rendered in bold, saturated color and confident brushwork.

Chapla spent many years painting and teaching in the San Francisco Bay Area, where the region’s light and landscape played a key role in shaping his mature style. He later returned to Vermont, where seasonal changes continue to influence his work.

Influenced by artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe and Joan Mitchell, Chapla blends representation with abstraction, using expressive color and layered texture to create rhythm and movement. His work reflects an interest in how forms and colors interact, resulting in landscapes that feel both structured and fluid.
