A mid-century modern piece halfway between a living-room sideboard and a compact storage cabinet, representative of post-war czechoslovakian industrial design in a fully modern key.

in czechoslovakia and poland during the 1950s and 1960s, the large furniture manufacturers absorbed the scandinavian and italian language and adapted it to highly skilled serial production. Compact sideboards like this one were conceived as a versatile piece for the living-dining room: a hinged door for crockery and glassware, two side drawers for cutlery and table linen, all in a contained volume raised off the floor.

it is built on a solid wood structure veneered in strongly figured walnut, with an asymmetric front combining a vertical door on the left and two stacked drawers on the right. The pulls are solid triangular wood, characteristic of the czech workshop of the period and very sought after today. The legs, in solid beech, are splayed and joined to the body with visible dowels. The top is finished with a raised moulding that defines the silhouette.

the patina retains the living character of the original walnut: the veneer keeps the depth and soft shine that use has polished over time. The legs and edges show light wear from circulation, without affecting the structural integrity. The interior is in correct condition, with functional shelves and compartments.

thanks to its modern silhouette and unique pulls, it sits naturally in mid-century, vintage, japandi and modern contemporary interiors, where it works as a living-room sideboard, a storage piece in a bedroom, a low cabinet beneath a wall-mounted screen or a leading piece in an entrance hall. Its asymmetry breaks the classic sideboard composition and gives it the character of an authored piece.
