This extraordinary blue curved glass wall mirror, attributed to Ettore Sottsass Jr. and manufactured by Santambrogio e De Berti in Italy around 1958, is a striking example of mid-century Italian design and craftsmanship. While the design has not been officially confirmed as Sottsass’s, the attribution is strong, its bold, sculptural form and experimental use of materials align perfectly with the designer’s work during the exact period he collaborated with the Milan-based glassmaker. If he was not directly responsible to the design, he surely had something to do with it. The mirror features a large, oval-shaped single piece of curved blue glass, a feat of technical mastery in itself. What truly sets this piece apart, however, are the numerous moon-eye shaped incisions on the back, each silvered to create a constellation of shimmering mirrored droplets around the central reflective surface. This technique is highly complex and would have been prohibitively expensive at the time, possibly explaining why so few examples exist today. The circular mirror, elegantly positioned off-center, adds to the dynamic visual appeal of the piece. Two curved brass mounts securely hold the central mirror, providing both structural function and a luxurious design accent. The brass parts developed an amazing authentic patina over time. The mirror is mounted to the wall via a discreet black wall plate, allowing it to hang safely and seamlessly. This mirror is not only a beautiful decorative object but also a rare collectible that speaks to the avant-garde spirit of Italian modernism. In excellent condition, with only minimal signs of age, it offers a unique opportunity to own a work of design history that bridges art, architecture, and functional decor. Whether placed in a gallery-like interior or as a centerpiece in a modern home, this piece brings glamour, elegance, and undeniable sophistication. Literature; E.
