While the design has not been officially confirmed as Sottsass’s, the attribution is strong, its bold, sculptural form and experimental use of materials align perfectly with the designer’s work during the exact period he collaborated with the Milan-based glassmaker. If he was not directly responsible to the design, he surely had something to do with it. The mirror features a large, oval-shaped single piece of curved blue glass, a feat of technical mastery in itself. What truly sets this piece apart, however, are the numerous moon-eye shaped incisions on the back, each silvered to create a constellation of shimmering mirrored droplets around the central reflective surface. This technique is highly complex and would have been prohibitively expensive at the time, possibly explaining why so few examples exist today.
