An exquisite piece of Hungarian porcelain artistry — a hand-painted Herend triangular tray in the beloved Rothschild Bird pattern (RO), bearing the authentic blue Herend backstamp and model number 7407/RO. The Rothschild Bird pattern has a storied origin: designed in 1860 at the request of the Rothschild family, it depicts a romantic 19th-century legend — a gardener discovers a lost pearl necklace after watching curious birds play with it among tree branches. That very necklace appears draped delicately in the painted branches at the center of this tray, rendered with the meticulous brushwork Herend is world-renowned for. The triangular form is an uncommonly found shape in the Rothschild Bird line, making this a desirable find for serious collectors. The fully reticulated (pierced filigree) border is hand-painted in gold and soft rose, with gilt-scroll feet. The central painting showcases two naturalistic birds in rich polychrome, surrounded by butterflies and insects — each one a tiny portrait in its own right. Condition is excellent — pristine white ground, no chips, no restoration, vivid color throughout. A rare opportunity to add a distinctive piece to a Herend collection or to bring an heirloom-quality accent to a library, dressing room, or entertaining table. Origin: Herend, Hungary
Markings: Blue Herend backstamp; 7407/RO; painter's mark 167-1
