A magnificent and commanding George III / Chippendale style breakfront library bookcase in solid mahogany — the kind of stately presence that anchors a formal dining room, library, or grand entry. Built in the proud tradition of English country house furniture, this piece showcases the architectural breakfront silhouette beloved of Georgian cabinetmakers, with a stepped-forward central section flanked by two recessed wings.
Upper section: Four tall glazed doors fitted with the iconic Chippendale-style astragal glazing — a beautifully crafted geometric tracery of octagons and rectangles that frames the contents like a series of architectural windows. The case is fitted with adjustable glass shelves for elegant display of china, crystal, books, or collectibles, and the interior backs are finished in a sophisticated hand-painted faux blue marble treatment that creates a luxurious backdrop for whatever is displayed within. Concealed in the upper cornice are integrated halogen / LED downlights that illuminate each section beautifully — perfect for showcasing fine porcelain or art glass.
Lower section: A central bank of five graduated drawers (two over three) with original brass swan-neck bail handles and lock escutcheons, flanked by two paneled cabinet doors concealing additional storage on either side. All drawers and doors lock; the original antique brass skeleton key is included (shown in photos).
The case sides are veneered in richly figured burr walnut, providing a beautiful contrast to the mahogany front. Crowned by a substantial stepped cornice with refined molding, the piece sits on a plinth base.
A genuine showstopper. Equally at home as a library bookcase, china cabinet, or formal display cabinet — and the integrated lighting makes it a true statement piece in any traditional, transitional, or English country interior.
Structurally sound; finish retains its warm rich color with light surface wear consistent with age. All locks function. Lighting tested and operational. Glass shelves intact. Original key included.
