This vintage item is a Lane Miniature Cedar Chest, a popular mid-century keepsake often given to high school graduates as a promotional "hope chest".

Manufacturer: Lane Furniture.
Material: Aromatic red cedar wood with a lacquered finish.
Historical Use: These were frequently distributed through local furniture stores as promotional gifts for graduating seniors. They were also used by traveling salesmen as "salesman samples" to demonstrate the craftsmanship of full-sized Lane cedar chests.
