Battersea - Winter is beginning to loosen its hold as a pale midday sun casts a luminous glare across the River Thames. The scene, softly defocused, recalls the atmospheric dissolves of J. M. W. Turner — light and water merging into something almost painterly, almost intangible. Along the riverbank, the remnants of an industrial past linger, gradually giving way to the steady advance of residential development in Nine Elms, Battersea. It is a landscape in transition, suspended between eras. Just beyond the frame, to the right, stands Battersea Power Station — iconic, recontextualised, and perhaps now preserved as the final monument to this stretch of London’s early twentieth-century riverside.
