Each wall sconce measures approx. 18 inches tall, … Read more Luxurious Pair of Gien Faience Majolica Pottery Wall Sconces for your consideration. Each wall sconce measures approx. 18 inches tall, 11 inches wide and approx. 6 1/4 inches deep. French; late 19th to early 20th Century. Tin-glazed kaolin earthenware fashioned in the form of medieval shields. Entirely hand decorated. Blue and yellow floral border. Top of plaque is decorated with a basket of fruit and sprigs. Further down the plaque are a pair of dolphins tied together with bow-tied ribbon and fleur-de-lis decorated collar. The dolphins appear to be connected with the floral designs, as blue and green tendrils fall in leafy-vined foliage. A painted portrait of a young man wearing a crown towards the bottom of the plaque with a snail motif on either side. Ormolu three branched-armed candlestick holders with cartouche design. Signed on back of each, "Gien" and impressed, "1". Excellent antique condition. Shows minor wear commensurate with age and use. See photos. Displays phenomenal! See less
