An exceptional antique cast stone garden lantern (known in Japanese tradition as a Tachi-gata or pedestal lantern). This piece features a classic six-tier construction, showcasing a weathered, charcoal-grey finish with authentic moss oxidation and mineral deposits earned from decades of outdoor exposure.
The lantern is crowned with a rounded hōju (jewel) finial atop a ribbed, pagoda-style roof (kasa). The central fire box (hibukuro) is intricately detailed with traditional diamond-shaped apertures, designed to cast geometric shadows when illuminated. The entire structure is supported by a slender, ringed cylindrical column that transitions into a robust, flared lotus-blossom base.
