Pair antique 18th c. French Empire parcel gilt tole peinte wall appliques circa 1800. Each in the form of a Diana figured caryatid monopaedia decorated with trophies.
These fluid lamps feature classical gilt decoration on a paint decorated green ground. The head of Diana lifts out to reveal the oil container. These are rare early survivals in that all of the technology associated with the lamps is present. This form has been reproduced but these are original antiques from the period. Good condition consistent with age - the removable paper candle sockets are torn and easily replaced. Measure 17" tall.
