Elegant viennese bentwood occasional table from the 1920s, produced within the thonet / j. & j. Kohn / mundus manufacturing circle.
the sculptural four-column base with cross stretcher reflects late bentwood production transitioning from vienna secession to early art deco. The black lacquered finish is consistent with central european furniture of the period.
the circular top is fitted with a smoked glass plate; the underlying wooden top has been replaced at a later stage.
a partially preserved, largely illegible paper label remains beneath. The form and construction are characteristic of early 20th-century viennese bentwood furniture.
the table was acquired together with a documented set of vienna secession armchairs by j. & j. Kohn (model no. 714, designed by gustav siegel).
with a diameter of 79 cm, the table can also function as a compact dining table for two. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
