The column shaft is turned and fluted with well-defined channels running its full length, tapering gently from a broader base toward a narrower neck in faithful imitation of the classical column form. The capital is composed of a series of turned mouldings and a shallow echinus, supporting a shaped square abacus platform with canted corners, well proportioned to receive a bust, urn, jardiniere, or sculptural object.
Below, a turned torus base with moulded rings sits on a plain square plinth of substantial thickness, providing a stable foundation.
The walnut has developed a warm honey and amber patina with deeper tones in the flute channels, lending the piece a richness and depth that distinguishes genuinely aged timber from later reproduction. The turning is precise and confident, suggesting a professional workshop rather than amateur production, and the overall architectural quality of the form gives the piece considerable presence in a room.
