Remarkable rare set of twelve genuine signed "Block Island" cane rush dining chairs designed by John Hutton for Donghia in the late 20th century. Beautifully crafted in the organic modern taste with a distinctive 20th-century inspired design by Jean-Michel Frank. The large set consists of ten side chairs and two host armchairs measuring 24 inches wide having an arm height of 26 inches high. The chairs feature a large mahogany high back frame embellished with woven cane or rush in a geometric block pattern. The iconic chairs are heavy and solid with tightly woven cane rattan in a checkered square design. The chairs are elegant and sophisticated with a warm finish and island coastal aesthetic grounded in natural elements. The chairs are in exceptional condition as seen in photos. Each chair has a branded signature on the bottom by Donghia. Sold as a set of twelve from an estate in Marin County, CA. New seat pads.
