A genuinely monumental double-sided studio painting, 4 feet wide by 8 feet tall, acquired from the estate of American modernist Virginia Banks. The scale and dual composition suggest it was originally installed as an architectural element rather than a conventional hung canvas.
One face reads as moody geometric abstraction in taupe, blush, ivory, and charcoal, with confident blocked forms and drip passages that place it squarely in the post-war studio tradition. The reverse is a full-energy expressionist composition in warm golds, ochres, blues, and coral, splattered and gestural, reading like the artist worked the panel over multiple sessions in different registers.
Because it's finished on both sides, it functions beautifully as a freestanding room divider, a gallery-style architectural insert, or a commanding statement piece for a loft, studio, or design-forward commercial space. Provenance is estate-sourced and the attribution story is Virginia Banks, though documentation has not been verified and the piece is sold as a period American modernist studio work.
Original mounting holes along the top and bottom edges confirm its architectural origin. The edges show honest wear, the finish is original, and there has been no restoration. A piece with real physical presence and the kind of scale that almost never comes to market unframed and unrestored.
