Born in Verona in 1921, the youngest of six children, Bogoni experienced a difficult childhood marked by personal loss and hardship. Despite this, his artistic talent emerged early. At just thirteen years old, he became the favored student and assistant of Franco Egidio Girelli at the Accademia Cignaroli, where he was already entrusted with teaching responsibilities in the foundry, an extraordinary achievement for someone so young.
Bogoni's early career was shaped by dedication and sacrifice, leading to his first major recognition with the Agonali d'Arte prize in 1938. His artistic journey was interrupted by World War II, during which he served on the Russian front and endured a harrowing return to Italy on foot. The physical and psychological toll of these experiences deeply influenced his later work.
After the war, Bogoni rebuilt his life through teaching, restoration, and relentless artistic production. His participation in major exhibitions, including the Biennale of Verona and the Venice Biennale, firmly established his reputation. Over the decades, he created a powerful body of work characterized by expressive forms, organic structures, and a constant exploration of transformation and the human condition.
These plaster sculptures reflect the essence of Bogoni's artistic language. Plaster, a medium he frequently used for both study and finished works, reveals the immediacy of his hand and the raw energy of his creative process. The pieces carry a sculptural presence that bridges classical training with modern sensitivity.
with approximately 200 exhibitions to his name and a lifelong commitment to creation despite illness and adversity, Bogoni remains a compelling figure in 20th-century Italian sculpture.
