I was lucky enough to acquire this treasured relic in a storage unit purchase. It was hidden in the back and admittedly, it didn’t catch my eye much until I was told what it was. There’s no telling how old, from where exactly or by who… but this is known: Pagota Lanterns have been used throughout all of Japan since the 1700’s, it has centuries of weathering & petina and its authentic!
It only stands about 6-7 inches tall and is about that wide also, but it is heavy! (about 10lbs) and is rich with character!! I haven’t put a tea light candle in there but I always wanted to. Just to think about how many people this passed down to over the decades, and how I was lucky enough to hold it for awhile… this why I love thrifting around so much!! To hold and get to love a piece of world history, right in your own home, just touches the inner being like nothing else can.
This is and absolutely amazing treasure that I hate to let go of, but just need to at this time. My loss is your gain!!
