The plates are from Monumenti di Fabbriche Antiche estratti dai disegni dei più celebri autori, published in Rome in 1796 by Giovanni Battista Cipriani (1766–1839), a Roman antiquarian draftsman and engraver. The work reflects the neoclassical interest in measured documentation and reconstruction of ancient monuments.

Each engraving is printed on handmade laid rag paper with visible plate impressions and bears a watermark (“AMG / SERAFINI”), consistent with Italian—likely Fabriano—papermaking of the period.
