This exquisite hand-woven baobab sculpture is a masterclass in global fiber art, blending organic architectural form with the vibrant soul of artisanal craftsmanship.
The baobab is the sacred tree of Madagascar. Colorful and made of raffia, it will brighten up your interior!
Height approximately 12in.
Materials: It is crafted from natural fibers, specifically rafia (raffia) and sisal.
Technique: The sculpture is created using a woven or coiled technique where the fiber is wrapped around a form to create the distinct striped and textured appearance.
Design: These figures often come in various sizes and are used as unique decorative pieces. This particular one features two intertwined trunks with green tufted foliage at the top.
Materials: RAFFIA
Raffia is the fiber from the leaves of a palm tree called Rafia Farinifera, which is mainly used in the production of handicrafts and decorative items, as well as in model making and in the fruit and vegetable growing sector.
Rafia farinifera is native to Madagascar and also grows on the east coast of Africa. The Malagasy people use this material for its elasticity, strength, and durability in applications ranging from wall coverings and bags to the manufacture of handcrafted decorative items.
A Statement in Textural Elegance
This piece transcends mere decoration, serving as a sculptural tribute to the legendary "Tree of Life." Its twin, intertwined trunks are meticulously coiled in premium natural raffia and sisal fibers, creating a rhythmic, two-tone striation of warm ochre and sunset crimson. This serpentine silhouette—reminiscent of two entities in a perennial embrace—brings a dynamic, kinetic energy to any interior space.
Masterful Craftsmanship
Artisanal Heritage: Every millimeter of this sculpture is hand-wrapped using time-honored techniques, ensuring that no two pieces are identical.
Organic Contrast: The sleek, structured trunks are crowned with lush, tufted emerald foliage, offering a tactile and visual counterpoint to the precision of the woven body.
Sustainable Luxury: Crafted entirely from renewable natural fibers, this piece represents a sophisticated commitment to eco-conscious design without compromising on aesthetic impact.
Curated Design Potential
Ideal for a minimalist gallery plinth, a mid-century modern credenza, or as a focal point in a biophilic-inspired study. Its commanding presence and rich textural depth make it a sophisticated acquisition for collectors of contemporary folk art and high-end artisanal decor.
