very good condition: brilliant colours, never framed, an old bump in the lower left corner, barely affecting the image and enhanced by the photo, complete (not cropped, trimmed\.) - please see pictures
note on condition: our artwork is complete, neither cropped nor trimmed. We insist on that because some people used to crop lithographs from these series in order to take away imperfections: this way, the artwork loses its integrity and even most of its value. We are selling a complete artwork, not crippled, and we show it all - one of the pictures includes the edges. Tip: the small bump, enhanced by the photo, can be easily covered under a mat when framed
this is a real lithograph from 1954, not a reproduction

picasso and the human comedy - the artist and the muse
la comédie humaine (the human comedy) series represents a profound, diary-like outpouring of creativity from pablo picasso. Produced between november 1953 and february 1954, these 180 drawings were created during a period of deep personal transition following his separation from françoise gilot.
the collection is a theatrical exploration of the relationship between the artist and his muse.
using characters like the aging painter, circus performers, and masked women, picasso examines themes of desire, aging, and the performance of art. The series is celebrated for its playful line work and its honest, often self-deprecating, look at the artist's own identity.

on this artwork
a deeply personal highlight from the la comédie humaine suite, the work serves as a theatrical meditation on the artist's own mortality. The male figure, a candid self-portrait, is rendered with a distinct smirky expression—a touch of picasso’s characteristic self-deprecating wit that acknowledges the absurdity of the ageing creator confronting a youthful muse.
the heavy black void positioned between the two figures acts as a stark psychological barrier, symbolising the vast, unbridgeable distance created by the passage of time. While the youthful nude remains serene and timeless, the smirking artist is grounded in the reality of his years. Through vibrant line work and this dramatic use of negative space, picasso transforms a studio encounter into a poignant, cynical, and ultimately honest exploration of human desire and the inevitable decay of the body.
