Note on condition: our artwork is complete, neither cropped nor trimmed. We are selling a complete artwork, not crippled, and we show it all - one of the pictures includes the edges. Tip: the small bump, enhanced by the photo, can be easily covered under a mat when framed

Picasso and The Human Comedy - The Artist and The Muse
La Comédie Humaine (The Human Comedy) series represents a profound, diary-like outpouring of creativity from Pablo Picasso. Produced between November 1953 and February 1954, these 180 drawings were created during a period of deep personal transition following his separation from Françoise Gilot.
The collection is a theatrical exploration of the relationship between the artist and his muse.
Using characters like the aging painter, circus performers, and masked women, Picasso examines themes of desire, aging, and the performance of art. The series is celebrated for its playful line work and its honest, often self-deprecating, look at the artist's own identity.

On This Artwork
The work features a stout, bearded man—another witty and slightly cynical self-portrait—gazing towards a youthful, seated nude with an unmistakable smirky expression. While the woman is rendered with elegant, minimalist green lines and a pink-tinted hairstyle, the man’s features are more detailed and grotesque, highlighting the contrast between aging reality and idealised beauty. Through this sparse yet masterful composition, Picasso explores the psychological tension between the observer and the observed, capturing a moment of raw, humorous, and deeply human interaction within the theatrical space of the artist's studio.
