artist vittorio bussolino (turin, 1853 – turin, 1922) was an italian painter and piedmontese landscape artist active between the late 19th century and the early decades of the 20th century. Trained at the accademia albertina in turin as a student of antonio fontanesi, of whom he was also a friend and collector, he practiced painting only as an amateur, working as a clerk for the city of turin. He devoted himself exclusively to landscape painting, with a romantic sensibility and an elegant, meticulous composition, strongly influenced by fontanesi’s style. His favorite subjects were piedmontese landscapes, countryside, woods, riverbanks (particularly of the po), and scenes featuring peasant figures or grazing animals, often rendered with soft tones, serene atmospheres, and careful attention to light. He regularly participated in exhibitions organized by the promotrice delle belle arti and the circolo degli artisti in turin from the early 1870s onward. His works, almost always oil on canvas or cardboard, are now found in private collections and appear with some frequency in auctions of 19th- and 20th-century piedmontese art.
