Worms is a city in Rhineland-Palatinate, located on the western bank of the Rhine. This large cathedral is admired for its Romanesque architectural balance, its monumental towers, and the red sandstone typical of the region. The painter depicts this view of the cathedral in a bygone era, with several people in the foreground going about their daily activities.
