This is a rare and historically significant World War I-era carnival knockdown game, specifically titled "Knock the Helmet off the Kaiser." Produced around 1917–1918, these were popular "trench art" style midway games used at traveling carnivals, fairs, and fundraising events to boost patriotic fervor and morale after the United States entered the war.
The presence of the original weathered paint surface shows its authenticity, as many of these were repainted or discarded once the war ended and the "Kaiser" was no longer the primary "villain" in the eye of the public.
Also miraculously intact is its trick function! When a ball knocks the helmet off, through magic mechanics, an Uncle Sam Hat lands on top of the Soldier. Mechanics remain fully operable, however we are not willing to truly hit the artifact with a baseball, so we will leave that up to you!
System is sat atop similarly aged bench but is movable.
