Gorham, founded in 1831 in Providence, Rhode Island quickly became one of the most prestigious silver manufacturers in the world. During the heyday of American silver manufacturing, from 1850 to 1940, Gorham was highly influential.
All Gorham sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver, marked with "Sterling". The back of each piece in this set is embedded with the words "GORHAM STERLING. PAT. 1938."
The Greenbrier pattern was first introduced in 1938. It is one of the least ornate patterns Gorham produced representing, instead, the fine and subtle elegance of a scalloped bottom edge and floral pattern twining up the edges of each piece. The seller's family is the only family ever to have owned this set. It was proudly brought out on holidays and special occasions and the seller has many memories of her mother sitting at a table polishing each piece with care before a big event.
This sale is a one of a kind event. The pieces are all priced at the bottom limit of their "sold" values. It is rare to find an intact set of this magnitude and scope. During our nation's 250th birthday, let us celebrate completely American made historically significant ( and beautiful) creations. As a bonus, the original "Arthur A Everts Co., Jewelers, Dallas, Texas" felt silverware pouches are included, at no charge, in order to keep the set in it's original protective home.
