Charles Pollock's 1963 Executive Chair features what he called "edge technology": the use of a single aluminum band along the entire perimeter of the chair to give the design both structural and visual cohesion.
Outer shell: batch-dyed, textured black polypropylene. Frame: extruded aluminum with a polished chrome finish. Steel support plate welded to the frame extends the full width of the seat cushion.
Padding: multi-density polyurethane foam, button-tufted detail.
Armrests: seamless black phenolic plastic.
Upholstery: wine-colored fabric.
Mechanical features: 5-star base on glides, fixed, non-adjustable seat height, seat swivel mechanism with automatic return to the starting position.
Pollock's concept consisted of an extruded aluminum profile that delineated the chair and served as a central structure, holding the parts together without the need for additional supports. Slots in the aluminum rim held the padding and backrest shell firmly in place, and they only became rigid once inserted into the rim. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
