The design is stylish and calmly proportioned; the clearly structured fronts, rounded corners, and material-focused finish lend the piece a sophisticated presence in the room. Historical Context: Secretary desks of this type originated in the 19th century as a combination of writing furniture and a chest of drawers. They were particularly common in middle-class living and working spaces because they offered both organized storage and a usable writing surface within a relatively compact footprint. A characteristic feature is the combination of a stately front, lockable drawers, and an interior writing area that could be opened and closed as needed. Furniture of this type was frequently found in parlors, studies, or bedrooms, reflecting the growing need for order, correspondence, and private administration within the home. Features: Pull-out writing surface with an olive-green leather overlay and adjustable side supports. - Interior layout with open compartments and small drawers behind the upper front panel. Design: This piece of furniture is attributable to the Louis-Philippe style and exhibits the typical combination of understated monumentality and soft lines characteristic of the period. Striking features include the rounded corners, the flat front paneling, and the mirrored mahogany veneer, which appears less ornamented than materially rich. Function: Originally used as a writing and storage unit for correspondence, documents, and small personal items, this piece is still suitable as a secretary desk, but also as a compact chest of drawers with an integrated laptop or writing surface for the living room or office. Dimensions: Height 97 × Width 128 × Depth 60–91 cm. Material and Condition: Mahogany, marble, recycled olive-green leather. Very well preserved with age-related wear, visible patina, and minor signs of age. Professionally inspected and restored by Kastellan. See less
