They are made from Hickory saplings and Old … Read more These Old Hickory dining chairs were purchased from Salem Design in 1998. They are made from Hickory saplings and Old Hickory classified these in 1998 as having a "Puritan Bark" finish. The seats and backs are cane. The brochure I kept from 1998 states the history of Old Hickory furnishings to include furnishing nearly all of the new national park lodges in the early part of the 1900s, including the Old Faithful Inn of Yellowstone National Park. The brochure mentions attention to detail, the difficult assembly with mortise and tenon, and the meticulous hand weaving process.
The wood of all 8 chairs is in excellent condition and the cane is intact in 7 of the 8 chairs. One arm chair has a strip in the middle of the seat where the caning needs repair, but the chair is quite usable. See less
