A large traditional Chinese lacquer wedding hat box decorated with the auspicious dragon and phoenix, symbols of imperial harmony and marital prosperity. The cylindrical form is finished in cinnabar-toned lacquer with carved and painted motifs of clouds, peonies, and mythical creatures beneath Greek key borders.
These ceremonial boxes were historically part of a bridal dowry used to store elaborate headdresses, textiles, and personal treasures.
