An opulent statement piece of Japanese decorative art, this 14-inch Satsuma-style porcelain urn is a masterclass in the Moriage technique. The vessel is flanked by two strikingly hand-sculpted Koi fish handles in a vibrant persimmon glaze, symbolizing good fortune and perseverance.
The body features a highly detailed, hand-painted narrative panel depicting a social promenade of Bijin (beautiful women) and children in a traditional garden. The scene is rich with architectural elements, including a garden pavilion and blossoming plum trees, set against a backdrop of gilded mountains. The artistry is highly tactile and covers every surface, including a matching lid crowned with a heavy gilded finial.
The artistry is exceptionally tactile, utilizing jeweled enameling. Raised turquoise, coral, and pearl-white "beads" that create a 3D effect on the landscape and kimonos. Intricate floral scrollwork finished in brilliant gold enamels. Kiku (Chrysanthemum) borders symbolizing longevity and nobility. The borders are encrusted with dense, pearl-like Moriage textures.
