This extremely rare set of cups and saucers were purchased in Taxco, Mexico, at the artist's studio in the 1990's. One owner.
By famed Mexican artist Emilia Castillo, we have a set of 6 (six) coffee/tea cups and saucers made of matte black smooth ceramic with hand-applied pure silver overlay. Each cup features a 3-D silver sculptural toucan bird perched on the handle, silver rim. The saucers have simple leaf decoration in silver. Each piece has small random silver flowers and dragonflies, particularly on the bottoms. Marked EMILIA CASTILLO; PLATA PURA; MEXICO M.R. on the bottoms of each piece.
The cups measure 2 1/4 inches tall and 4 inches wide. The saucers measure about 7 1/4 inches diameter. Each set has nice substantial weight of about 510g.
These have never been used for dining, only displayed as art pieces. The silver shows patina due to age. I have polished them a bit by hand, but if you wish to buff them completely I'll leave that up to you. No chips, scratches, or silver loss. My home is smoke free. I pack with great care and double box.
