Signed gouache painting on cloth with scenes from the life of Lord Krishna.
The subject matter depicts the Raasleela, or the eternal dance of love between Lord Krishna and the Gopis (cowherd girls). Pichwais are devotional Hindu paintings hung behind temple icons of Shrinathji to depict specific tales of devotion.
Originating over 400 years ago in Nathdwara, Rajasthan, these paintings are traditionally created on cloth using gouache or real gold paint.
