Each plate was printed as a fine héliogravure (photogravure) on specially developed paper. The imagery originates from Muybridge’s landmark Animal Locomotion studies (c. 1884–1887, University of Pennsylvania), a project that revolutionized the analysis of movement and profoundly influenced modern art and early cinema. Clarity note: This print is after Eadweard Muybridge (20th-century photogravure from the Electa portfolio), not a 19th-century original print. Eadweard Muybridge (1830–1904), English photographer and pioneer of motion studies.
