the sinuous and elegant explorer cabinet comes with space-age curves, functional storage and rich colours.
hayon wants furniture to fit in a home on a near-personal level. The smooth lines and playful colour are inspired by a conventional hot dog. This humour balances with the structure’s modularity, complimenting a room while remaining functional and visually unique. The explorer cabinet is hand-finished with the same durable and elegant high gloss lacquer used on pianos.

the cabinet is detachable and can be easily transported, but its body stands out with an astral quality. It hovers over its wooden legs, simmering in colourful curves and a brilliant gloss. Its elegance is out of this world, nearly.

about the designer:
born in madrid in 1974 and trained in industrial design, jaime hayon's creative talents know no bounds. Seamlessly transitioning between furniture and design objects, interior design, installations, sculptures and paintings, he crafts a narrative universe that is uniquely his own.
hayon's work embodies his distinct perspective on the world — a whimsical yet insightful exploration of the human psyche. His deep-seated connection to art in every facet of his life is embodied in his zoomorphic, colourful, and folkloric pieces. Hayon offers a captivating glimpse into his imaginative realm. Like a 21st-century archaeologist, he examines and excavates recurrent themes of diversity, metamorphosis, and hybridisation to create a visual language that is accessible, intriguing, and instantly identifiable as hayon. His relationship with materials, notably marble, stone, glass, wood and ceramics, is integral to this language, taking a visceral and intuitive approach to colour and technique.

about the manufacturer:
bd has been around for over half a century. It was founded in a nightclub in 1972 by a bunch of young architects and designers from barcelona. They broke into the design world with a new vision: to produce and market their designs, and the designs of their friends with complete creative freedom and design criteria. Beginning with the designs of contemporaries like ettore sottsass, rennie mackintosh and álvaro siza, bd provoked a curiosity about design. These early pieces helped bring international recognition to the country’s design scene, and many of them still exist today.

they are an international design company run by a collective ownership —apartamento magazine (nacho alegre, omar sosa, marco velardi), taller bofill (pablo bofill, ricardo bofill, luna paiva, hernán cortés, fernando de la mata), and igor urdampilleta from arquitectura-g— all architects, publishers and designers. Along with one of the founders, oscar tusquets, this group fosters the same nonconformist spirit bd has had since its beginnings. Their independence as a company fuels their intentions and supports this purpose.
