Traveling Man Treasures is selling this excellent handcrafted 1940s-1950s Dayak Bahau ancestral/guardian statue from Borneo. This ironwood statue has a powerful squatting body, intricately carved shoulder pieces, delicate looped ears, and a fiercely protective face. The statue is topped with a removable carved brass helmet.

The Dayak are a fascinating amalgamation of over 200 tribal groups in Central Borneo. Their vibrant culture is steeped in ancient customs, beliefs, and a deep connection to nature. Ancestor worship remains strong to this day.
Borneo is a large island in Southeast Asia’s Malay Archipelago; shared by the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak, Indonesian Kalimantan and the tiny nation of Brunei.
