The period is most likely around the 20th century. They were originally parts used to tighten and secure a wooden barrel, and because both a larger and a smaller ring remain, they possess a strong sculptural quality not only as individual tools but also as a combination. Even after finishing their practical role, they still retain the quiet presence that is unique to old Japanese tools, giving them a special charm within a space.

The material is iron. The entire surface is covered with rust that has developed over many years, showing rich and varied tones ranging from reddish brown to dark brownish black, along with a rough and uneven texture. When viewed closely, traces remain of where nails once fixed them in place, suggesting that they were indeed components associated with a wooden barrel. Although their structure is extremely simple and purely functional in origin, the honest circular form is beautiful.
