Antique 19th-Century Persian Qajar Dynasty Polychrome Tile – Falconer on Horseback
This striking 19th-century ceramic tile originates from the Qajar Dynasty of Persia (modern-day Iran). It features a hand-painted, polychrome glazed scene depicting a classic noble pursuit: a falconer mounted on a horse with a large, vibrant blue bird of prey perched above him. The tile is rendered in a traditional palette of cobalt blue, manganese purple, and emerald green against a creamy white ground, characteristic of the period's aesthetic.
The central figure is dressed in period attire, including a distinct blue cap and a rose-colored tunic. The reverse reveals a thick, hand-pressed buff-colored clay body with an authentic aged texture, typical of architectural tiles used to decorate palace walls or elite residences during the 1800s.

Small chips and nibbles are visible along the perimeter edges and corners, revealing the underlying earthenware. • Reverse: The back is unglazed and shows substantial texture, including minor old mortar remnants or mineral deposits from its original installation. • Stability: Despite the hairline crack, the tile remains structurally sound and intact. less
