Bronze sculpture of Mercury (Hermes), the swift-footed messenger of the gods. Inspired by 19th-century Grand Tour bronzes associated with the workshop of Benedetto Boschetti.
This work is inspired by 19th-century Grand Tour bronzes associated with the Roman workshop of Benedetto Boschetti (active circa 1820–1870), known for producing exceptionally high-quality reproductions after classical antiquity. Boschetti’s studio catered to European collectors and exhibited at the Crystal Palace Exhibition of 1851, contributing to the enduring popularity of these timeless forms.
Balancing gracefully atop a spherical base, the figure is depicted mid-stride, with one arm extended skyward and the other holding the caduceus—symbol of commerce, communication, and exchange. The winged helmet and athletic form reinforce the classical iconography.
A sophisticated decorative object that bridges classical antiquity and 19th-century European collecting culture.
