Hand-knotted in fine wool circa 1920-1930, this 3x10 antique Persian Tabriz runner rug is a rare and contemplative survivor of the early 20th-century weaving tradition. Featuring a prayer-rug "Mihrab" silhouette adapted into a long gallery format, this runner represents the high technical precision and artistic versatility for which the Tabriz workshops are celebrated.
On the Design:
This antique Tabriz is an exemplar in rhythmic repetition and symbolic architecture. The central field is defined by an elegant "Mihrab" or prayer arch at the top, which transitions into a dense, hypnotic field of Boteh motifs—an ancient symbol often associated with the flame of life or a budding leaf.
The palette is a sophisticated study in aged, soft tones, where muted coral and sand-beige bleed into one another through a beautiful natural abrash, grounded by a cool, slate-blue foundation.
Unlike the more common geometric runners of this era, this piece maintains a delicate, curvilinear finesse that feels remarkably serene. Each row of Boteh is meticulously aligned, creating a shimmering texture that shifts with the light.
The field is framed by a stately border featuring stylized palmettes and interlocking vine scrolls in ivory and blue, providing a crisp, architectural finish to the warm, soulful interior. It is a tranquil, scholarly piece that brings a sense of historic quietude and sophisticated color to any corridor.
Condition:
This Antique Persian Tabriz Runner further enjoys good condition for its age and lineage.
