This masterpiece was designed by Paul Nicolas (1875–1952), Émile Gallé's most talented student, for the renowned Kristallerie Saint-Louis under the exclusive D'Argental brand.

The bowl, made of heavy, multi-layered overlay glass, features a deeply etched and masterfully hand-finished decoration of blooming roses. The dramatic color dynamics are particularly noteworthy: while the relief appears in a deep, almost mystical dark red (aubergine) in daylight, the bowl transforms into a glowing, fiery ruby ​​red when illuminated. The interplay of light and shadow lends the petals an almost three-dimensional depth.

Mounting Details

The bowl is held by an original, magnificent suspension made of fire-gilded bronze. The floral embellishments and the delicate Louis XV-style brackets perfectly complement the rose decoration on the glass, making the lamp a harmonious work of Art Nouveau art.

Condition & Authenticity

• Signature: The bowl bears the authentic signature "D'Argental" with the Lorraine Cross (Signé à la croix de Lorraine), the trademark of Paul Nicolas' designs.

• Condition: Excellent antique condition. The glass is flawless, without chips or cracks. The bronze patina is authentic and untouched.

• Technique: Acid etching and hand-wheel cutting (high-relief engraving).
