(image) Handsigned by the artist in pencil Certificate of authenticity from the "Méchant-Méchant" album On Arches Paper A self-taught, multidisciplinary artist, Niki de Saint-Phalle created a world instantly recognisable at first glance. She is best known for her Nanas, monumental sculptures depicting women with exaggerated forms, which she designed to be displayed in public spaces, for all to see. The artist attaches great importance to the beneficial potential of art, which for her takes on an almost therapeutic dimension: ‘My passion is to bring moments of joy to others through my art’. In this lithograph, the artist addresses children. She has adapted one of the illustrations created that same year for the book ‘Méchant Méchant’, in collaboration with the author Laurent Condominas. It is a story about the triumph of friendship, in which children help one another to recover their toys stolen by a monster. Through its graphic form and colours, the style of children’s art is easily recognisable, which enhances the impact it can have on them. In this scene of everyday life, teachers, children and a policeman rub shoulders with animals and plants in a profusion of rounded shapes and bright colours typical of the artist’s work. The movement of the characters and the richness of detail make this work a real treat for the mind. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
