The famous Tulip tables, designed by Eero Saarinen in 1957 as part of the "Pedestal Collection" for Knoll. This design has become an icon of 20th-century modernism, created with the goal of eliminating the visual clutter of table legs.
The top is typically made of high-quality marble, such as Bianco di Carrara.
Marble: Arabescato (white with grey veins),
The base is made of cast aluminum with a Rilsan coating.
Saarinen, who was also a sculptor, approached the table as a single, fluid form. By replacing four legs with a single pedestal, he created a "unified" silhouette that allows the surrounding room to feel more open. It’s a rare piece that works as well in a minimalist gallery as it does in a cozy living room.
If the Tulip Side Table is the "hit single," Eero Saarinen (1910–1961) was the rockstar composer of Mid-Century Modernism. A Finnish-American powerhouse, he didn't just design furniture; he reshaped the American skyline with a neo-futuristic style that made concrete and steel look as fluid as water.
If Eero Saarinen was the visionary sculptor, Knoll was the powerhouse that brought those visions into our homes. Founded in 1938 by Hans Knoll and later led by the legendary Florence Knoll, the company transformed "modern" from a niche aesthetic into the global gold standard for interior design.
