Sarfatti, founder and director of arteluce until 1973, produced hundreds of numbered lighting designs, with the 600 series representing his table lamp category.

the lamp retains its original square arteluce label in silver, confirming early arteluce production and authentic first-edition status. The label reads:

“arteluce – article 600c – design registered – made in italy”

the 600c features a leather-covered weighted base filled with metal pellets (“sandbag” base), allowing free repositioning and precise adjustment. The lamp’s design exposes the chrome-topped bulb as a functional and aesthetic element, differentiating it from the related 600p, which incorporates a protective shield.

this first-edition example represents sarfatti’s technical innovation and minimalist modernist design during the late 1960s milanese lighting scene, prior to the sale of arteluce to flos.
